Ed Mankelow Awarded Prestigious Wild Earth Award for 2000
Long time campaigner Ed Mankelow has dedicated much of his life to preserving British Columbia's wildlife and wilderness. As the longtime president of the Vancouver Island Wildlife Federation, Ed has been involved with bringing wildlife enthusiasts into groundbreaking partnerships with conservationists in order to achieve protection on some BC's most beautiful wild areas. The successful campaign to protect the Nitinat Triangle on Vancouver Island from logging was one of the first of major campaigns Ed was involved in. Due to the efforts of Ed and his fellow campaigners the Nitinat Triangle remains wild today, and is now part of Pacific Rim National Park. Later, Ed and the Wildlife Federation worked together with the Sierra Club of Vancouver Island to develop a joint campaign to protect the Schoen and Tsitika valleys.
Ed is has been presented the Wild Earth Award by BC Spaces for Nature in honour of having displayed exceptional dedication, achievement and perseverance over many years as an environmental activist working to protect Nature in BC.
A more extensive biography of Ed Mankelow's achievements will be posted shortly.
